Example Question 1

Example corresponding to question 6 in college algebra 2.

Example 1

If $g(x)=-2x^2-2x$, then $g(g(-1))=$?

  1. $-1$
  2. $-4$
  3. $4$
  4. $1$
  5. $0$

Solution

  1. This is a composition of functions. We first evaluate $g(-1)$

    $g(-1)=-2(-1)^2-2(-1)=-2+2=0$

  2. We now substitute $g(-1)$ by $0$ in $g(g(-1))$

    $g(g(-1))=g(0)=-2(0^2)-2(0) = 0$
