Polynomial Division Calculator

This interactive polynomial division calculator shows every step of the division process, including the quotient and remainder.

Division of Polynomials

The division of polynonomial \( P(x) \) by the polynomial \( S(x) \) may be written as follows
\[ \dfrac{P(x)}{S(x)} = Q(x) + \dfrac{R(x)}{S(x)} \]
where \( Q(x) \) is the quotient and \( R(x) \) is the remainder of the division.

How to Use the Polynomial Division Calculator

Enter the dividend and divisor polynomials below. This polynomial division calculator will compute the quotient and remainder step by step.

1 - Enter and edit the polynomials \( P(x) \) and \( S(x) \) and click "Enter Polynomials" then check what you have entered.
Note that the five operators used are: + (plus) , - (minus), / (division) , ^ (power) and * (multiplication).
example: \( P(x) \) = 2x^4+x^3+2x^2-x-7 and \( S(x) \) = x^2-2x-1
2 - Click "Divide Polynomial" to obain \( \dfrac{P(x)}{S(x)} \), the quotient \( Q(x) \) and the remainder \( R(x) \).

\( P(x) \) =

\( S(x) \) =
